Vintage Stereo Equipment
Question regarding amplifiers?

I have playing guitar first on my "bucket list". Over many years I have accumulated what is now vintage component stereo equipment, amps, speakers, etc. Does anyone see a problem with hooking this gear up to my new electric guitar? I think it will produce a good sound ( in the future I hope!) but maybe not??? Input appreciated. I am truly a novice at this point.

Nothing 'bad' will happen to your equipment, however your equipment may not reproduce the guitar as it is intended due to impedance mismatches. Make sure you plug into a high-z input if possible. You will need to preamplify the guitar to get any type of usable signal. most guitar suffer from a lack of midrange that a guitar amplifier naturally bumps up. Don't be surprised if the guitar sounds thin and unresponsive.

Really, with the price of good amplifiers being so low nowadays why not just go pick up a small roland cube or a fender practice amp. You'll be much happier. Ask for a low wattage practice combo that is solid state. If you want effects the salesman will show you some amps that have them. you can get a decent amp for $150, or buy used on Kijiji and buy a peavey that will last you into the next ice age and beyond.

good luck.
