New Test Equipment Versus Used Test Equipment
If your business or project needs test equipment, would you buy new ones or used ones? Which is a better buy, new test equipment or used test equipment?
With the recessionary economy that major companies are experiencing, it comes as no surprise why most companies think twice before buying new test equipment. When you need to buy test equipment, you have two options: to buy new ones or to buy used ones. Which is better? Which will give you better value for your money?
Here is a comparative look of the two options:
- The cost of new test equipment is far higher than used test equipment. A new spectrum analyzer, for instance, can cost around $40,000 while a used one will cost $8,000 depending on the brand and specification. If you compare the cost, there is a significant difference. If you want to save money, you should consider buying used test equipment as long as there is a guarantee that the test equipment are in good Working Condition.
- In terms of quality, there is no doubt that new test equipment has better quality most of the time compared to used test equipment. Although you shouldn't generalize because sometimes used test equipment are even better than new ones. For instance, a new test equipment from a low class brand is inferior compared to a used test equipment manufactured by a good brand. So when comparing quality, don't just decide to buy a new one just because it is new. Always compare the brand and specification.
- If you compare work output, you wouldn't notice much difference. New test equipment are in excellent working condition and they come with a warranty. You have the assurance that you will the result that you want. Properly maintained used test equipment work as good as new ones. Used test equipment suppliers will also give you warranty when you purchase from them.
- There is a wide range of brands to choose from if you either buy new or used test equipment. If you buy new test equipment, you will be able to choose from all brands offering test equipment. If you buy used ones, you will have to choose from the ones that are available from the supplier. You can't request for a particular brand if there is no use equipment for that.
After having a look at these comparisons, you can now make a decision whether to buy new or used test equipment.
