My 1998 ford crown victoria headlights shutting off....?

i have a 98 crown vic. ex police car.. i will be driving down the road and my head lights, tail lights, and hole instroment pannel will shut down and start to flicker on and off... I do not need to be comming head on with another car and have my lights be doing that my luck it would be a cop and the car is already a cop magnet...can anyone answer this??

As greg c. said, check the grounds. Every once in awhile they get a little corroded or dirty, and then the connection begins to fail.

Also, every once in awhile they nick a wire they're not supposed to when they're removing the light/siren wire harnesses. They're generally pretty good about removing things like the should, but it's in all reality you might have a loose wire kicking around in there somewhere.
