Voltage Converters Or Voltage Transformer?
Voltage converter will change the voltage of a power supply.
There are many different kinds of voltage transformers depending on the kind of power supply that's required (the wattage) and you will usually need to know what exactly it is that you need so that you can avoid electrical damage by using the wrong converter.
Electrical outlets are usually divided into 2, and they will vary depending on the country in question: there are those that give an alternating current with single phase and these supply voltage of between 100 and 125 volts, and then there are those that will supply 210 to 230 volts.
A converter will be used to adapt electrical equipment so that it can accommodate either of these 2 forms of electricity. It will be used so that in a place where the voltage is 110 to 220 volts, the electrical current can be adapted for equipment of a lower voltage and vice versa.
The transformer has a full wave rectifier which converts the A/C to D/C current using a few other components which are found in the voltage converter.
You will need voltage converters if you are supplying electricity from a main source to smaller sources, or if you know that the electrical gadget that you are using doesn't use electricity at the voltage that's available.
Depending on whether you want to step up or step down, you will choose the right voltage transformer. You will usually know the voltage requirements of an electrical gadget by looking at the back.
